Exo Terra Forest Bark is a 100% natural, biodegradable terrarium substrate made from tree bark from sustainable timber cultivation. Exo Terra Forest Bark is the ideal decorative substrate for moisture-loving reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates from tropical forests.

Hygroscopic properties regulate the humidity in the terrarium in a natural way: The bark absorbs and then slowly releases the moisture. The unique size and shape of the bark pieces stimulate natural burrowing and hiding behavior and make it difficult for crickets to hide in the substrate. The fir bark is spun in a drum to smooth and remove dust from the bark pieces. The bark is then heat-treated to prevent bacterial contamination.

Instructions for use:
Spread a 3-5 cm thick layer of the bark on the terrarium floor. Moisten the substrate as needed to achieve the required humidity level and use an Exo Terra® Hygrometer to monitor. To increase humidity in well ventilated terrariums or in terrariums where very high humidity is required, a substrate heater should be placed under the terrarium. As the chips of forest bark are small, they have a particularly high thermal conductivity even when dry. Remove heavily soiled substrate selectively on a daily basis. For intermediate cleaning, rinse the substrate in hot water. Replace the substrate completely every 8 weeks or as required.
